This MC will take the form of a humorous exploration of different customs and etiquettes through physicality. We will play with the potential for physical comedy through the potential misunderstandings and confusions in those ‘lost in translation’ moments of nonverbal communication.

Dominance and subservience with Ted Miltenberger
A look at where one stands on a scale from one to ten, and something that just may allow for some positive work on bullying and self esteem! All students get involved in a little of acting role play and we teachers will do the same!
From ensemble to complicite with Darren Scully
This workshop is based on the theatre practice of Dymphna Callery, drawing upon Peter Brook and contemporary physical theatre companies such as Complicite. Exploring ways of heightening sensory awareness and freeing up our creative energies through physical exercises and stick work.
Social issues drama with Stella Ireland
Research shows Middle School to be a pivotal time for engaging students in social issues. This workshop will engage colleagues in activities, ideas and resources for working on social issues in the drama classroom. We will examine a recent unit that focuses on immigration and the refugee experience.
Ted will lead a teacher exchange for all teachers. So bring an exercise or idea, and be prepared to play. A great opportunity to share ideas.

This workshop encourages young playwrights to switch off any internal critical search light inhibiting self-expression. The writer becomes an observer of imaginary images speedily recording scenes that drift through the mind.
2. Less is more with Louise Clark
Start with something small, begin with something bland. Pull it, push it, twist it, turn it, every way you can. End the day with something beautiful in your hand. Devising – the simple way.
3. Creating moods with Anna Maria-Horstmann
Lighting and sound can work very well to create a specific mood in the theatre. This workshop explores the moods that lighting and sound can create in a practical manner. This includes learning about the different lights and the effects that these can have.
4. My amazing brain with Debra Kidd
How does drama make you smart? We’ll play lots of games to find out. Wow them with your brainiac talent!
5. I’ll smack you if you say that again! with Darren Scully
This is a stage-fighting workshop with sticks instead of fists. I show you how to go from simple street fighting to choreographing large fights. And no one gets hurt. Much.
6. Tell it through the body with Rebecca Patterson
This is a physical theatre workshop that needs no words but will help you to communicate! Prepare to be amazed and exhausted.

Student Workshops: Local Workshop Leaders
Beijing Opera with Shaoliang Zhang and Zhenghua Li
This workshop will explore the form and characteristics of Bejing Opera. This includes work on movement, voice and will introduce elements of characteristaion and story. This workshop is led by 2 leaders, Shaoliang Zhang, a State First-Class Artist, who specializes in the role of ʻOld Manʼ and has more than 40 years stage experience. He is a professor at Nanjing University. The second leader is Zhenghua Li, a State First-Class Artist, who specializes in the role of ʻTsing Yiʼ and has more than 35 years stage experience. She has also been a guest professor at University of Hawaii, Manoa.
Chinese Dance with Bonnie Tsung
Chinese Dance is designed to expand the cultural knowledge of China through the means of dance. Participants will be learning the fundamentals of a traditional folk dance, which includes styles such as the Han Ribbon Dance. Students will perform a short routine by the end of workshop.
Bonnie Tsung will be leading the workshop. She began her dance training at age five in ballet, jazz, modern, ballroom, and Chinese dancing. She was the lead dancer in Contra Costa Chinese Folk Dance Company and has toured throughout the US and Taiwan with the Chinese Performing Artists of America dance company.
Pansori with TaeKyoung Kwon
Pansori is an ancient form of Korean Storytelling that uses a combination of music, song and movement to bring stories to life. A full Panasori performance can take up to 8 hours! In this workshop students will explore the basic techniques of the style, which will have particular focus on voice, percussion and movement.
TaeKyoung Kwon will be leading this workshop. She is a professional performer of the Pansori tradition and Since 2003 she has performed over 1200 times as a Korean culture missionary in China to introduce Korean traditional culture. She won the first prize in Korean traditional music contest in 2001, first prize Korean traditional music instrument contest in 2001 and first prize in Gayageum, Korean zither contest in 1990.
She has also worked as a professor in Korea, from 1998-2002, before coming to China.
